Pirates, Manatees, and Mysteries! Oh My!

Welcome to the world of Jane Wood’s books. Juvenile fiction author Jane R. Wood captures the imagination of young readers ages 9-14 through stories rich with mystery, adventure, and humor. Follow the escapades of the Johnson family, as 13-year old Joey hears voices in St. Augustine; 9-year old Bobby has a close encounter with a manatee; and 5-year old Katy meets a pirate on Amelia Island. Wood weaves the history and the environment of her settings into her storylines, making her books educational, as well as fun.

Skype Calls to Orlando and Kazakhstan

November 09 2011

I participated in two Skype video conferences this month. I chatted with 4th graders at St. Andrew Catholic School in Orlando answering their questions relating to my book Voices in St. Augustine which they had recently read. I always enjoy connecting with students, both virtually and in-person.

Skype with KazakhstanMy other Skype experience was an international one. Fellow author Frances Keiser and I engaged in an early morning conversation with journalism students and faculty members from Al Farabi University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It was early evening there and the students were full of questions about book publishing, including publishing trends, standards, design, software and marketing. The hour-and-a-half video conference was arranged through the US State Department.

Today’s technology provides many options for expanding the learning experience far beyond the classroom walls. Any schools interested in scheduling a Skype Author Visit can contact me at 904-268-9572 or e-mail me at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

I’m still doing Author Visits to Schools in-person. If your school would like an author visit from me, please contact me at 904-268-9572.

Another Accelerated Reader Book

For schools participating in the Accelerated Reader program, Trouble on the St. Johns River was recently added as an AR book. It is AR Quiz # 147378. The interest level is Middle Grades. Its Book Level is 4.5 and its AR Points are 3.

Adventures on Amelia Island: A Pirate, A Princess and Buried Treasure is also an AR book. Its interest level is also Middle Grades. The Book Level is 4.5 and its AR points are also 3.

I have developed AR-type quizzes for my other two books. If any school is interested in receiving copies of them, simply send me an e-mail and request them. I can be reached at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
